Have these details beside you
Keep your passport, flight details and accommodation booking available. Use an email address you can access, a secure account password and a charged phone or tablet for arrival. Work somewhere you can check the entries carefully, rather than in the immigration queue.
From account to arrival code
- 01Account
Create an account or sign in with your email.
- 02Traveller
Register passport details and check the entry category.
- 03Trip
Add the planned arrival and the requested stay details.
- 04Declaration
Complete the relevant immigration and customs questions.
- 05Arrival code
Open the correct trip and person at the airport.
Check names, passport numbers, dates and the selected trip against your documents before finishing. If the passport scan fails, the official guide explains how to enter the details manually. Do not treat a saved trip as proof that every required declaration has been completed.
Check every traveller, including children
When using the service's accompanying-family options, check the selected traveller as well as the selected trip. Have each person's required information and code available; do not assume one parent's code completes everyone's airport procedure. Ask staff how to proceed with children or anyone who cannot use a particular kiosk.
Japan Customs says users of its integrated kiosks complete the terminal procedure individually, including family/group members. Eligibility and available equipment vary. A family registration feature does not remove a traveller's identity check.
Keep the code accessible, and keep the passport
Open the relevant arrival code before reaching the counter. Keep the phone charged and the original passport ready. If you change an entry, reopen the current details; an old screenshot may show old information. Test the service's supported offline preparation in advance if you plan to depend on it.
The tax-free shopping code is a different feature. The Digital Agency says screenshots cannot be used for that code. Do not assume an arrival backup image works for every service on the website.
If you cannot sign in or display the code
Use the account-recovery route on the official service while you still have time and internet access. At the airport, ask staff for the appropriate procedure and forms. Japan Customs provides a paper declaration option. Have your passport and travel details ready; do not keep retrying a broken phone while blocking a queue.
Do not choose answers merely to remove a warning. Correct a mistaken passport entry against the original, and ask the relevant authority about a requirement you do not understand. There is no promised fast-track time on this page.
See what happens after landingDoes Visit Japan Web replace my visa or passport?
No. It prepares arrival information. Check your visa and entry requirements separately, and carry the required original documents.
Is using Visit Japan Web compulsory for customs?
Japan Customs recommends electronic declaration and also provides paper forms. Follow airport staff instructions for the process you can use.
